Bifur is a supporting character and protagonist in The Hobbit film trilogy, appearing in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Bifur is the cousin of Bofur and Bombur. Prior to the series, Bifur was a toy-maker who was friends with the Line of Durin. He suffered from a blow to the head and has an ax embedded so he can only speak dwarvish and not Westron, the common language in Middle-earth. However, once it is removed in The Battle of the Five Armies, he speaks full Westron, much to the shock of his cousins.
Bifur later went on Thorin's quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug.
