Balin is a supporting character in the 1977 film version of The Hobbit.
History[]
Balin is one of the companions of Thorin Oakenshield after Smaug takes control over the Lonely Mountain. At least one hundred and forty one years later, Gandalf leads the company to Bilbo Baggins, who they hire as their burglar and because Thirteen is a very unlucky number by their calender.
It is unknown if he survived the Battle of Five Armies, but it seems highly likely he survived and died in Moria with Óin and Ori.
